I have been following this legend for over 20 years, still have some VHS somewhere, ”Laird Hamilton big wave” was one of my first searches on youtube……….
Always loved his attitude and views on life.
This book did not disappoint!
I am seriously breathing better after just listening to this book, and ending my showers cold as this is where I got to know about the Wim Hof method.
In my world riding boards this guy is not a legend. He is THE legend!
It doesn’t really matter if you are carving water, asphalt or snow.
This is the dude!
From what I can find, this books is getting kicked around a bit as ”messy” and ”preaching the obvious”.
But when you dig a bit in who is saying this it becomes pretty obvious that the criticism comes from lack of understanding.
Laird is and have always been VERY different and never afraid of going his own way, that is what I love and I know some people hate.
This dude respects death in a way so deep that makes a ”normal” person thinks he doesn’t.
This book touches the surface of his world as a young surfer with death around the corner every day, with a lot of good input from Gabby and other people close to him.
To get back on topic this book is capturing and explaining the topics of:
death & fear, heart, body, soul, and connectivity
In a style greatly mixed between a self help book and a memoir.
Laird is today one of the worlds premiere fitness gurus with a client range I will not even mention (google it if you do not know!) With his own approach of course.
We are going a bit in to the world of ”XPT” which is very interesting in my opinion.
If you have an interest in physical health, this will catch your attention.
And it is also when I read about Neil Strauss doing this I found my way back to Lairds world.
This in its turn have led me to Wim Hof ”The Iceman”, but thats a story for another time.
Lastly I just have to kick a bit on the ”critics” complaining about the classic ”Live life to its fullest” as some kind of kliché, as it is true why don’t you just try it instead of staying indoors complaining?
